USB hotplug + rsync

I added the following line as the last line in /etc/hotplug/hotplug.functions

(sleep 20; /home/QtPalmtop/bin/rsync -avC -pogt --progress -e "ssh -i /home/zaurus/.ssh/zaurus_key" /home/zaurus/ bigpig@192.168.129.1:.zaurus > /var/log/rsync_log 2> /var/log/rsync_error) &

It was failing because it was running before all of the housekeeping was done, so I put a 20 sec sleep in there, and it worked.

1. You'll have to create an ssh key pair for the zaurus using ssh-keygen:
   ssh-keygen -t dsa -C "Zaurus backup key" -f zaurus_key
   
   
2. Make sure the private key is in the /home/zaurus/.ssh dir on the Zaurus
   
   
3. Put a copy of the public key in your desktop/notebook's .ssh dir.
   
   
4. Add that key to the .ssh/authorized_keys file on the notebook/desktop
   
   
5. Make sure that you've logged into the desktop/notebook at least once from the Z so that the Z's key will be in the .ssh/known_host file , and you're good.
   

Lexar 256 MB SD card = "bad"; Panasonic 256 MB SD card = "good"

I decided that I needed an SD card to expand the options for my Zaurus SL-5600.

Lexar 256 MB "High Performance" SD card: I first purchased a Lexas "High Performance" 256 MB SD card based on Lexar's previous flawless performance for me, and Lexars stainless reputation.  I had nothing but frustration with this card.  After writing several megabytes to the card, it would suddenly become "read only," causing whatever you were doing to fail.  I tried several options, and none of them made the card usable.

Panasonic 256 MB "Super High Speed" SD card:  Pure joy!  I returned the Lexar, and paid an additional $17.00 and walked out of the store with the Panasonic 256 MB "Super High Speed" SD card.  Before I even left he parking lot, I popped it in the Zaurus, and copied 93 MB of MP3s from the CF card to the new SD card.  No failures.  Last night, I repartioned it, creared a ~64 MB swap partition, fought with the rc files until I made a way to have the swap started at boot, and went to bed (much later than I'd planned).  So far, flawless performance, and I haven't been nice to it.

Now, I'm going to have to rethink my usual contempt for most things Panasonic....
