Speex on the Zaurus:
I tossed a question up on the ZaurusUserGroup site (on 13.Mar.2004) about speex on the Zaurus. Almost a month later (7.Apr.2004), bender647 stumbled onto it, did some messing around and managed to get a working speex, statically linked compiled for the Z! you can find his ipk's here:
home.comcast.net/~bender647/speex/
(I should probably make a mirror of that page in case we loose track of bender647....)

SD card problem:
There's a problem with the SL-5600 and some large set of SD cards.
Partial solution: Edit /etc/sdcontrol and add ,sync to the end of the line that starts with FATOPTS=. It should read something like:
FATOPTS="-o noatimei,quiet,umask=000,iocharset=utf8,sync"
When you're done.

From kurochka:

CAUTION: USE OF NAND RESTORE FUNCTION MAY RUIN YOUR ZAURUS. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. THIS NAND IMAGE IS PROVIDED BY kurochka WITH NO WARANTY EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. THIS NAND IMAGE IS PROVIDED ONLY FOR THE EXTREME CASE OF A "BRICKED" ZAURUS SL-5600 WHEN THERE IS NO OTHER RECOVERY POSSIBLE. RESTORING THIS NAND IMAGE TO YOUR SL-5600 SHOULD ONLY BE USED AS A LAST-DITCH RECOVER OPTION. THIS NAND IMAGE IS PROVIDED IN GOOD FAITH BY kurochka, AND HOSTED IN GOOD FAITH BY ME. WE OFFER NO SUPPORT FOR THE USE OF THIS NAND IMAGE.

This is a NAND backup file for SL-5600 with Intel PXA250 CPU (DO NOT USE IT FOR 5600 with 255 CPU). It has basic tkc ROM to keep the file small. You can change the ROM to any you like after the restore. Look for more information in the forum on http://www.zaurususergroup.com

I have just made this file from my 5600 unit and had no occasion to test whether this backup file works.

SYST5600.DBK

We recommend calling the technical support line for Sharp found in the back of your manual for all support issues.

To use this NAND backup to flash your Zaurus:
- with a cfcard or SD card writer, copy the SYST5600.DBK to the root directory of a CF or SD card.
- Place the card with SYST5600.DBK in the unit
- remove the battery cover
- open the Zaurus keyboard
- with the stylus in hand,
- place your fingers on the D and M buttons
- carefull turn the unit over and hit the reset button with the stylus while pressing the D and M buttons on the keyboard
- turn the unit back over, face-up

You should be looking at th Zaurus Service menu (page 1 of 4).

Use the direction pad to move to page 4 of 4, and select "NAND Flash Restrore" from the menu.

more to come....
